The Steal
Self Titled

The debut full-length from United Kingdom hardcore punk band, The Steal, was released this past summer by Get Outta Town Records. I’ve seen this band’s name from time-to-time, yet I’ve never heard even a snippet from them up until now. Apparently this past August they also embarked on their first US tour of the East Coast and I’m sorry to say, that I missed it.

Had I listened to this band earlier, I most definitely would have done my best to attend at least one of their shows over here. This band plays a fun-filled style of hardcore that is rarely heard nowadays. The first band I thought of was Civ or a better Set Your Goals. In a climate where hardcore bands are judged by how many breakdowns they incorporate into their songs, it’s nice to hear a band more intent on having a good time rather than trying to, either revolutionize hardcore or replicate the current “it” band of the moment.

These songs aren’t perfectly played or sung. They certainly are not innovative. Yet they make you want to sing-along and dance. Using the speed of Kid Dynamite, the pop melodies of The Descendents and the voice of Civ; The Steal have a fun album without the pretentious bullshit so prevalent in today’s hardcore scene.

Rating: 4/5
Songs Worthy of Replay: “World Wide World”, “Waiting For The Simple Life” & “Living For The Weekend”
Synopsis: If you’re into melodic and fun hardcore in similar vein to Civ or Set Your Goals…you will enjoy this album. Check ‘em out!
