Ten 33, is a band from Richmond, Virginia that plays old school hardcore infused with influences of melodic punk rock, youth crew hardcore, as well as a slight nod to metal. When they formed in the winter of 02' with ex members of Cephid, The Roust-A-Bouts and The Success Story, they were known as Whenever You're Ready and then The Emergency but finally decided on the name, Ten 33, which is the police code for Emergency. They have released two demos and a full length titled Emergency! Emergency! But enough of all that, lets get to "Nightmare on Grace Street." After the brief ode to Richmond via sample, "It Never Dies" kicks this album into high gear and doesn't let up throughout the duration of the disc. The melody driven parts have tons of energy and passion behind them, the fast old school inspired verses just reek of conviction and urgency. This is straight up hardcore with lyrics that are worth singing along to. As I had mentioned, there is a good amount of melody on this album but none of the cheesy shit, think along the lines of Champion, XLooking ForwardX and Gorilla Biscuits. For instance, Jerry's Kids is my favorite song off this album and it is one of the more melodic driven songs on the album but it just bleeds with urgency and intensity. The song has a real eerie yet catchy sound. It's one of those songs I could put on replay and listen to over and over. Lyrically it's also the best song in my book, dealing with what I'd assume to be about Bush and his fundamentalist views. Another song I was really feeling was "March On Castle Greyskull" which features a raging, fast paced old school opening riff that breaks into a great youth crew inspired sing along with a driving melodic chorus. On the production side of things, this album is extremely solid, the drums are full and dense, the guitars have good crunch, the bass is rich and warm and pulses along in the background, and the vocals were just right in the mix. The layout is cool and only adds to the album building on the Nightmare on Grace Street theme and the lyrics are arranged for easy reading which is always a plus. The album is comprised of 10 songs that clock in around 21 minutes, it doesn't even seem that long while listening to it. I would definitely suggest this to anyone who enjoys any of the bands I had mentioned earlier, and even to the swarms of Comeback Kid fans, plus this doesn't have any gay singing like a lot of the new Comeback Kid stuff. Cope it.
