S.S.S.PS.S.S.P. (Skinheads Still Scare People) is a side project of sorts from Vinny Value (Warzone, No Redeeming Social Value, Kill Your Idols) and Mike DeLorenzo (Kill Your Idols, Celebrity Murders). This CD has a raw hardcore sound with heavy rock and oi-inspired street punk infused in it. The lyrics are excellent and really cound great coming from Vinnie's gruff throat. The music is certainly a step away from the styles of both member's previous groups but just as well-played as those classic band's songs. The more I listen to the tracks on this CD, the more I get into them.
I only have two complaints. I feel the production and mix of this CD is significantly subpar. The guitars are mixed too low with the snare drum dominating the songs sound. Unfortunately this leaves some excellent songs gasping for life behind the tin can pounding of the snare. My other complaint is more of a personal preference, so it's not a knock on the band's music in anyway. I personally am not a fan of instrumental tracks. And I especially don't enjoy opening tracks I prefer to get right into the songs (with vocals) rather than sit through (in my opinion) an intermission. So with this CD I find myself skipping right to the second track. On a final note, the artwork is amazing which is always the case with any Koi Records release. S.S.S.P is written in old english font over top a coat-of-arms with two skinheads holding American and Italian flags. Very fitting artwork for this release.
