The lords are back! And better than ever. It's hard to improve upon their S/T but somehow they managed to do it. If you're already familiar with the Slumlords you will get everything you expected and more. And if you're unfamiliar with them, you better get on the fucking train. So for those of you under rocks and bridges and what not, they play punk hardcore with crunch with touches of street punk and Oi! influences. This EP is short and sweet. Only four songs, but they're all great ones, each flowing into one another without missing a beat. Once again one of my favorite hardcore front men, Jeff Perlin displays his abilities to turn anything he touches into golden humor. A lot of people aren't huge fans of his lyrics but what the fuck do they know, they'd rather listen to the same old political drivel or pseudo intellectual garbage. Well, if you bust your ass for little cash and like to tank beers on the weekend and/or during the week this is your band. As I write this it's after a long day of work and I'm drinking some beers and popped this on. The opener "Slumber party at Jacko's," kicks this off the right way. I was laughing my ass off throughout the duration of the song, shit I was still laughing half way through the second song and spilled my beer. As good as the title track is, "City That Bleeds" is the best song on this EP, especially lyrically. It's something I can relate to very well, city life. And the economic shambles they're in. My one complaint is that Slumlords followed suit of every other hardcore band it seems lately, having the one song about the Iraq situation. As good as the song it's just something that's been said way too much recently and has become trite. Other than that, I got no complaints. The recording even sounds a little better then the S/T while still maintaining the raw sound. And the artwork/layout is slammin'. If you're a vinyl hound you better pick this up, because as I said earlier this EP will be going on ebay for mucho dinero in the years to come. Slumlords blowing up in 05'.
