This is the debut six song EP from Washington, DC’s Set To Explode. They feature the former front man of Striking Distance, Dave Byrd and an ex member list of pretty much every solid DC area band from the last few years, from Worn Thin, 86 Mentality to The Goons. Although this is their debut they prove they know how to write a great, no frills hardcore album. This thing rips through the 6 tracks in a mere 10 minutes leaving little time to think as your head is getting cracked. Though most of the influences of the band rely heavily on the sound of early 80's American hardcore, they toss in some straight punk rock influence as well which gives the band their own unique sound without detracting from their hardcore roots. The greatest example of their punk rock influence would be the fifth track, "Never Give In" which is a little longer than the other tracks and offers up more of a straight punk rock sound and actually makes for the best track on this impressing EP. The lyrics deal with hatred and spite towards posers and religions as well as standing up and fighting against the against the status quo. The production sounds good, although I think the release could’ve benefitted from a more raw sound. The layout fits the band, simple black and white band photo with the band logo that looks like something straight out of the early 80's. The booklet features two live shots with the lyrics and a bare bones white with black font layout, just the meat and potatoes. Songs Worthy of Replay: Never Give In

Thesis: The band offers up their first 6 songs as band in true hardcore/punk fashion. Good stuff.
