MotornoiseMotornoise are most likely the first and only band I have heard from the great nation of Portugal. Surprisingly I was stoked to get this CD for review since I have a weird thing for discovering new bands from foreign lands. I can't explain it, perhaps I'm sick of the redundant drizzle of punk and metal bands here in The States. I know, I know, a lot of the foreign bands spit out the same boring and overdone tunes, but most seem to do it with more passion and heart than the disenchanted American youth who seem to form these bands because it's the "cool" thing to do in this day-and-age. It's a vast difference from when I grew up where metal was for scumbag burnouts and punk was for ugly dorks. Not that everyone fit into those two categories, but those were the most adamant fans of those genres in the early 90's.
So this brings me back to this album, from a new band to my ears and a new country to add to my musical appetite. Motornoise play a straight ahead pissed-off style of punk with heavy crust, street and skate punk influences. For good measure they toss in some metal undertones and guitar solos to the mix in case you feel it's a bit too punk for your eardrums. Motornoise don't invent the wheel, but they surely know how to use it to push their tunes around in an impressive manner.
Rating: 3/5
Songs Worthy of Replay: "Nao", "Mau Dia" & "Destino"
Synopsis: Though I do not speak a lick of Portuguese, this is an enjoyable CD if you're into classic punk with a slight metal influence. The CD has simple and affective artwork that looks professionally done even though it's released by the band themselves. Check them out at: www.myspace.com/motornoise
