Live To Tell
Decoys and Lures EP
Self Released

John Martin

This is a surprisingly mature-sounding debut from this Philadelphia band. Unfortunately, I've had this CD in my player for about two straight months and I just can't seem to remember any of the tunes shortly after these three tracks finish. The music is very good, however, and I really wanted this EP to stamp itself in my subconscious like all good records do. I love the mix of British guitar rock (i.e. Muse), the progressive style of emo (i.e. Coheed & Cambria) and modern post-hardcore (i.e. Far). The singer has a great voice that hits a multitude of ranges with a higher pitched tone ala Claudio from Coheed & Cambria.

This EP is probably right up your alley if you love the progressive emo of the aforementioned Coheed & Cambria or the more modern sounding post-hardcore bands that have been dubbed emo or screamo, such as Finch. But two things are working against Live To Tell, as I mentioned…this CD isn't memorable after it's run its course and most people are probably so numb to this type of music since it wasn't too long ago that it was beat into our skulls at every turn. If you never grew tired of said music or your ready to revisit a great sound that radio ruined, then by all means this is your cup of tea. These guys do it well. They play their instruments competently, sing well and write a fine sweeping tune that keeps you involved at least through the duration of the track.

Rating: 3/5
Songs Worthy of Replay: "Only Horse Have Feelings" & "Bucket Of Blood"
Synopsis: Very good band that I can't seem to get hooked on. Hopefully my head will come around because I think this band has a lot to offer. I'll be keeping my eyes on this group and you should too.
