Last Call from Troy, NY, home of Stigmata and Skinless play a seamless blend of thrash metal and hardcore with some metalcore sensibilities. Many people will slap a metalcore tag on this, but that wouldn't give this band the justice they deserve. Unlike many of the bands of this style, they have an actual hardcore vibe to them. They play metal influenced hardcore in the vein of the Cro-Mags or Sick of It All but with some metalcore parts thrown in the mix. You can definitely feel the NYHC influence throughout this disc, from the likes of Sick of It All, Agnostic Front, to Biohazard. The CD starts off with the track "The Deep End" that starts off with a metalcore feel but then rears into a stompy section alas Sick of It All. "Ghost in the mirror" starts off with some eerie guitar work followed by a great off timed drumline. The fifth track "Conspiracy" was my favorite. It starts off with a nice bass intro and tears into a hardcore anthem, and then into a ripping metal section with hardcore vocals being spoken over it. It shows much more of the bands hardcore roots, obviously planted from the 80's NYHC scene. Ending an album with a great song is just as important as starting it off. Capping off this fine album would be the track "Mud In Yer? Eye", and that it does. If you like any of the aforementioned bands I highly suggest this album. This album has everything, old school hardcore, new school breakdowns, metalcore, thrashin metal riffs, great leads. If this band gets exposure I could definitely see a lot of people getting into this band.
