Jet Lag GeminiAs far as I know, this is New Jersey-based Jet Lag Gemini’s debut full-length. They previously released an EP also on Doghouse Records. I want to apologize because this review will be fairly short. I normally try to give a semi-detailed account on the music as well as some background to the band. Unfortunately though, there is little of interest here.
Jet Lag Gemini play an annoying version of pop-rock made immensely popular a few years back by ex-Doghouse cohorts, All-American Rejects. In fact this CD draws a lot from the Rejects as well as Midtown and other pop-punk bands from the early part of this decade. Midtown, however, took pop-punk and crossed it with rock music to create their own brand of pop-rock and…they did it well. All-American Rejects weren’t that original either, but they had a knack for writing catchy-as-hell pop songs.
JLG just consume those previous influences, mix in a sugar-coated serving of every teeny-bopper band with bad hair featured monthly in AP magazine and puke it up like a child who had too many sweets. They then take that putrid upchuck, put their name on it and serve to you, expecting you to grin and love it. I listened to this album about a half a dozen times and there is nothing memorable here. I for one can’t wait until this band fires their own cannons to signify the end of their collective musical career.
Rating: 1/5
Songs Worthy of Replay: “Stepping Stone” & “ Keep This With You”
Synopsis: JLG are clean and shiny enough to show off to your mother, but I hope to never be introduced to them again. This band will get their recognition from the likes of Alternative Press magazine and may even grace their cover one day, so that right there tells you all you need to know about this band.
