Ifarm
So My Kids Wont Have To
Blackout!/Creep Records

These punk rockers from New York City’s rock mecca of Williamsburg, Brooklyn area play extremely well rounded punk, influenced by everything from The Ramones, The Six Pistols, Suicidal Tendencies and NOFX. Apparently this band was is/was real big the punk crowd, well I never noticed, until now that is. This was the first full length by the band, released back in 1997 on Creep Records, this time around comes with new artwork and re-mastered sound. The song-writing right off the bat is good stuff, whether it’s a speed ball of a verse of a melodic sing along chorus, Ifarm does a masterful job of creating a unique brand of punk rock and they don’t forget that integrity and something worthwhile to say is just as crucial to a song as they actual music itself. As dynamic as the music is the vocalist is just as versatile, implementing various screams, pop punk singing, talk singing, while touching on hippies, yuppies, bigots, the government, and all kinds of random shit. There is even a song called knucklehead that’s about kids who can’t figure out lyrics to a song. Even more good lyrical content in the song Lucy Likes The Cops which is essentially about girls getting away from tickets and being arrested because they’re good looking. You also get intelligent anti-establishment ranting in the songs, young republican, there ought to be a law and big brother took the day off. Oh yes, how could I forget the song, ChairmanMe, the anti-brushing teeth song. The lyrical content gets an A plus across the board, maintaining a consistent theme with curve balls here and there, an intelligent stance without taking themselves too seriously and rather than having that one sappy girl song they went and flipped it with She’s Over You. The cover at first seemed a bit too much but after further inspection of the layout and music, it made sense. This album has been in my player quite a bit lately and I’m sure it will find its way back in there again.
