CaldwellWell here's another one of those records that I LOVE to review. Hailing from Panama City, Florida, Caldwell plays emotional metalcore for all intensive purposes, however they do a fair job of mixing in some more hardcore and punk influences than most bands that claim to do it. Now I don't know what the hell it is but the Southeast spawns more emo music than any other god damn place. Well maybe except for California but atleast they have a lot of good "real hardcore." I'll give it to Caldwell though, they have a pretty good knack for songwriting, their chorus's are pretty catchy. There's also some gang vocals used sparingly throughout the album, however they seem out of place and seem to forced. The lyrics aren't too bad either, not great but they fit the music well and they aren't as stupid as most bands that play this style of music. I'm not a big fan of this style of music and never will be, but you can easily weed out the good from the bad, to the terrible. I know when I'll give this type of music a decent rating when I'm not thinking of ripping the album out of my stereo and throwing it out the window, immediately. And I'll always give a band like this some extra kudos when they don't have the gay ass cliche band still. The layout is alright, nice use of colors and scheme to match the name of the album. The production is good, right on point for the most part. Although to me the bass sounds different from song to song, at times full and resonant and others dull and weak. Also features guest vocals from Steve Taylor of Across Five Aprils. If like heavy emotional music, you might like this.
