Belay My LastDeathcore is a genre that is getting inundated with sub-par bands, though the same could probably be said for every genre but it seems like after the Killswitch Engage type metalcore died down in popularity, deathcore has really been rearing its head in unexpected places as of late. With that said, it takes quite a bit for a deathcore band to keep its head above water. When I first got this and I saw Mediaskare was the label that put this out, I hoped to God that this did not resemble their labelmates As Blood Runs Black, who I just can't stand, at all, and I even like a ton of deathcore. Lucky for me when I popped this shit on I heard deathcore alright, but much more intricate and layered deathcore.
I don't know much back history on this Fullerton, CA dwellers other than the fact they seemed to get relatively large over the last couple months, even though they have been around since 2004. And the fact that their name is stupid as shit. Regardless these guys bring the brutality, however, and are able to do it without just breakdown after breakdown, they are able to craft some pretty slick riffs and melodies. In my opinion, these guys are bit more technical than most of the bands in the genre. It seems at least once in every song they hit you off with a dizzying display of guitar wizardry. The drum work is fantastic, there are tons of great double bass rhythms as well as some pretty wicked fills. Another thing that impressed me was the bassist, he isn't no Victor or Jaco but he does make it a point now and again to stray away from the work of the guitars. The vocalist does an awesome job of mixing of ear piercing highs and ground shaking lows. Now and again the band throws in some gang vocals that actually worked really well.
The biggest let down for me with these guys were the sub-par lyrics. "One More Foot In The Grave" is about a mother who neglected her kid(s). "An Inconvenience To A Whore" doesn't really need any explaining, it's about a whore ex-girlfriend, so what else is new. "Cycles of Suffering" is another faggotty song about making that ex-whore pay for what the bitch did. "Death Unto Other(s)" is another revenge song about some crazy whore bitch, yeah, yeah I get the fucking point Jesus. "Watch Your Mouth Sweet Heard" is another song about some stupid cunt. Man, c'mon these lyrics are fucking whaaaaack! "A Threat and a Promise" is the deathcore equivalent to hardcore's "I'll pound your fucking face out" type shit. Still in vein of girls is "Mannequin Smile", yet it touches about the vain and shallow girls who spend their savings on looking good. "Miss America" is another faggot ass song about "I won't miss you girl", blah. So all in all, about 80% of the lyrical content is about bitch I'mma kill you, bitch I'm gonna rape yo butt cheeks cause you did me dirty.
This thing features a top notch recording. The rhythm section sounds insanely heavy. I'm feeling the shit out of the bass tone, it has great presence and well rounded tone that has just enough treble to accent the thickness of the tone. The drums have a really good sound, obviously the kick is critical for deathcore releases and it doesn't disappoint here. The guitar is as heavy as King Kong's balls. Good placement on the vocals as well.
For the layout you get a nine page foldout booklet that has a pretty cool poster of the front cover artwork as well as some pictures of the band playing live. The horrible lyrics are displayed in a easy to read format, two songs to a page (though no one should bother reading them).

Songs Worthy of Replay: One More Foot In The Grave, The Downfall and A Threat and A Promise
Synopsis: Musically this is some really good deathcore and there are a few, very few decent songs lyrically but overall they fucking suck. So I would love them to keep doing what they are doing musically but really step it out in the lyric department. Other than that this is a good release. Oh yeah and I didn't mention this thing has an enhanced CD with video for "One More Foot in the Grave".
