Ten 33

Who is Ten 33?

Ten 33 is a group of wonderful gentlemen who play the genre of music called hardcore.

So what was up with all the name changes?

You know, I think this is the first time i've been asked this question... We've just had a string of bad luck with names. Whenever You're Ready (our first name) was a Fastbreak reference, Later we changed our name to The Emergency which was taken by some indie rock band in West Virginia.. After finding out that an indie rock band had already claimed that name we decided on Ten 33 which in fact means Emergency in police radio code. We've also thought about calling ourselves Dr. Teeth and the Electric mayhem but that was already taken by the Muppets.

How's the summer been treating you guys?

Crucial summer, We've toured the full United States doing legs with bands like Blacklisted, Bloodline Calligraphy, and Dead Hearts...Released a great new record entitled Nightmare On Grace Street. And finally, we played a quick excursion with our Miami based friends Stop This Fall.

How's the hardcore scene in Richmond, VA?

One word, Incredible! I'm so proud to be from a city that has hosted so many amazing bands like Count Me Out, Stop It, Strike Anywhere, Sixer, Smoke Or Fire, Avail, Gwar, Lamb Of God, Denali, Engine Down, Barfight, and a ton of others. Not to mention the amount of raw new talent is amazing too. Be on the look out for bands like Brace War, Army of Fun, Get a Grip, High Stakes,Worlds End, and Riot Squad

Is Grace St. in Richmond? And why did you use it as the title for your new album?

Not only is it were a majority of the members have lived, it's also a great street hosting many notorious punk rock venues, and great places to eat. Just a fun block all together.

What's the deal with Bill?

This is the most common question we get on tour. Bill Scruthers is a janitor that works hard at his job, enjoys NASCAR, The Core, Shooting Ranges, Smokies (hot girls), The Redskins, and more NASCAR.. I suppose in short he is just a fan of Ten 33.

I'm guessing you guys are Christian, considering you're on Blood and Ink records, do you feel Christian bands get passed on more so than a normal hardcore band because of your beliefs?

Oh totally, It's really sad actually. I think people tend to think we're going to shove our faith down their throats. We're here to play music that we love and more notably to make an impact on peoples lives. I think if kids would stop being so closed minded at times and open up their ears and hearts they could learn a lot, Not just from us but countless other bands that have great lyrics (and I'm not talking about Christian bands).I don't expect everyone to accept us and what we believe in but we at least hope they would at least keep an open mind prior to writing us off or anyone off for that matter. Hardcore is a mixing bowl of beliefs and feelings and i think we need to respect (not agree) everyone's beliefs if we're going to see this movement last.

What's some of your favorite releases for the first half of 2005?

What do you guys have planned for the rest of 05' and early 06?

We're hitting the road again in the winter, and we're releasing a 12"

Who exposed you to hardcore while growing up?

My best friend Travis Davis showed me Strife, Chokehold, and Earth Crisis. I was hooked and my first show was Balance (pre Count Me Out/Time Flies)

Thanks we enjoyed it.
