Last Call

Give us a rundown on the history of Last Call.
Well Boonie And myself.. Started up in 1996, We have had many members from other bands which would take a year to list! We have played many shows with the likes of hatebreed, madball, leeway, biohazard, skinless even andrew WK..We released 2 demos, But just recently we started making a name for ourselves..by playin a lot of east coast shows.. and the release of our cd “The After Hours”.. which is getting us some recognition all over the world.

Any of you guys play in other bands before Last Call?
I sang for (a days torture, as above so below) & played bass for(politics of contraband, and currently play bass in The Fire Fight). Boonie played guitar in (dying breed, and Flat Broke), Mike played Bass in (Flat Broke) Craig Drums in(hellemental, mourning would) And Tim was our roadie ha! he joined after we recorded “The After Hours”.

What's some of the influences that you guys draw from? (I know Cro-mags have to be one of them)
We all have different influences.. Myself I’m into Sick of it all, Agnostic front, the misfits, Sheer Terror, Murphys law, madball, Breakdown, COC, clutch,Faith no more, even sabbath, skynyrd, and zeppelin,..The other guys have similar but bands like Kiss, Iron maiden metallica, slayer,Death, dream theatre.. So I think All of our influences combined Reflect in they way we write tunes!

What do you guys consider yourself; hardcore, metal, metalcore, or do you believe in not categorizing yourself by specific "genre" standards.
LAST CALL- A Hardcore, Heavy Metal ,Punk Rock-N-Roll Explosion! I think that sums it up well!

You guys just recently released "The After Hours," how long did it take for you guys to write and record?
Conspiracy ,Diablo, and birthing hips were old tunes we re-recorded.. The remaining nine we had written over the past 3 years.. so we were ready to record! We wanted to capture our live sound as best we could and unintentionally we recorded the entire 12 songs live in 4 hours... a week later Boonie layed a couple more guitar tracks and solos.. all bass and drums were good from the first session. and I kept about 95% of the original vocal tracks.. I just went back and for about an hour I touched up a couple parts and added some other Screams and laughs! and then we had A Backup session which was about 3 hours long.. We mixed tracks 2 or 3 at a session!

As musicians in the "DIY/Underground Scene" what do you plan to accomplish as a band?
Well My goal was to Put out a cd that sounded pretty good and looked good. I think we have accomplished that! We would love to tour. and all that good stuff.. but Jobs families And school have to come first... I dont know how some bands do it.. and live off of nothing.. props to them! So for now we play as much on the road as our lives allow us to and we are going to hopefully do a tour this summer.. Someday europe!

I''m curious to know what your take on underground music getting exposure in the mainstream media for example Hatebreed, Sworn Enemy, Headbangers Ball show, ozzfest etc.
I think Its great! Nothing wrong with The world being exposed to the underground.. I am proud of hatebreed and swornenemy and Im friends with them.. Jamey Jasta Deserves every good thing that comes his way!! When he was starting out we used go see hatebreed and get them hooked up with shows , whether through our bands or scene promoters!! And now he is on top of the world.. And he didnt forget a soul.. The little guy like last call.. who when I call on him for a favor or a show to trade.. He gets right back to me and always willing to lend a helping hand!!!... But what realy mattered to me me is what he did on their tour in Dec./03 ... how he brought Agnostic front, Sick of it all, Ringworm, subzero.. on tour with hatebreed!! That was the best thing he could of ever done! because all these kids who think that disturbed or korn or puddle of mudd is hardcore.. He showed em different! Why Hatebreed and guys Like us are all doing this.. what influenced us!!! Thats Great!

How would you describe your live show to a person whose hasn't seen you guys?
Recently Our shows have been crazy.. 300 people going nuts,Crowd surfing, stage dives, mosh mania.. and the fucking girls are crazier than the guys...Our main goal Is to rock the house.. We want everyone to lose their mind.. And have fun.. In between Songs .. I lek to tell jokes Or Bust the crowds balls.. I guess this is a influenced from Jimmy of Murphys Law and Paul of sheer terror.. I always enjoyed their Shows.. the tunes and the entertainment in between songs..

How?s the Troy/Albany scene? Any bands you think people should be checking out?

Endicott just signed to Equal vision records ,Gunther weezul, Great day for up! the list goes on and on ... So how people who are interested in the Troy/albany NY scene ! go to - www.albanymetalscene.com www.bystanderfanzine.com, www.stepuppresents.com.. Those sites should get ya what yer’ lookin for..

Do you think the internet and technology has hurt local scenes or helped them?
Personally for bands like Last call I could give 2 shits if some one downloads our songs.. thats why we Have mp3s for the first four tunes from the new record... and 9 old demos on our website www.lastcallny.com and www.victimizedrecords.com... People still buy the record to support the band Yeh Im sure it matters to metallica... For me I have been online with my own computer for a year.. and I have done more for our band than with out a computer in the past 6 years!!.. thats how I met you Jeff... ha ha! It helps!

Care to name some of more memorable and not so memorable moments of the band?
A memorable moment Was recent our cd release show 300 people packed into a small club And when we hit the stage... I then Realized that the crowd realy was there to see last call and not just the five trmendous bands we had opening the show!!.. That place exploded and that was a great feeling for all of us!!!

That's about it. Thanks a lot of taking the time to do this interview. Any shout outs, plugs, or fuck you's?
No! Thank you! Jeff.. Yeh Last call Would mainly Like to thanks all the Lastcallaholics all over the world... and most importantly Ryan Robitaille/Vicimized Records .. who took a chance with us When know one else would..
