Introduce yourselves....
i'm jason, i sing. the other guys aren't present but we have wade on guitar, reed on drums, steve on 2nd guitar, and matt j on bass. that's the lineup we've had since we wrote the record.
How did your recent East Coast tour go?
real well. we played some shows that very few people came too, but we managed to have a good time every day. we had three roadies that bought booze every day so we were on the same level the entire time. augusta georgia was our best show. sean youngblood was present and we enjoy his company.
After your recent release of your first full length "Constant Struggle" your name has been spreading throughout the hardcore scene. What would you attribute that to?
i hope it's because we've got something most bands these days dont seem to have. we try to use alot of different influences, and thats true now more than before because now we're writing some real devastating shit.
How did Wade, who played in Desperate Measures from Maryland, end >up joining the band?
wade is actually from texas. desperate measures always had close ties with texas so when they needed a guitar player he stepped up. that was toward the end of DM, and after that ended we started writing for iron age.
Does it piss you off if someone labels you a metal band rather than hardcore band?
hell no
Texas has been blowing up lately, bands like Pride Kills, Will To Live, Bitter End, Ten Crowns, etc., have finally garnered the attention they rightfully deserve. Have you noticed a change in the scene down there? And what are some bands that we'll be hearing from soon?
it's always changing but its a real close scene so it's usually on the up and up. shows in austin have been getting pretty raw and that's rare in this town. there's a rack of good bands comin up right now so its great that some big band doesnt have to came through to have a good show. we can have all local bands play and its usually pretty big. people will get into the bitter end lp, livin, copic times, army of jesus, condemned unit, and decrease the peace real soon.
Do you guys have any plans to get a website up?
none so far but we probably should! we have never had an interest in having a myspace or at least a legit website because i hate the internet, but im realizing we could do alot more if we had one so who knows we might have one soon.
Sad to say, either way you look at it, fashion is a big part of hardcore. Whether it's the girl pants and youth small shirts of the "fashion kids" or the camo shorts, new balances, and sleeves of today's more rugged individuals. Shit there's so many "hardcore" clothing lines popping up now it's sick. Do you agree/disagree that it's hypocrisy for one group to attack another when they are just as guilty?
to be honest i don't even notice what people wear anymore. i think guys that look like chicks are ridiculous but whatever ya know? i just dont care what people are wearing in hardcore cause its always changing and i agree most people are hypocrites but thats the case for almost every subject you deal with.
Do you feel hardcore/metalcore has reached it's pinnacle in the mainstream or is it still on it's way up?
its hard to say, there's alot of shit bands that you see having videos or playing these huge shows, it seems like it could get bigger if more quality bands started to get more attention. but who knows because you can never count on the general populous to have good taste. it could go either way i think. but thats whats good about hardcore and metal becuase if you didnt have the masses eating up all this garbage thats out there, this scene wouldnt have anything to compare itself to.
The Age of Quarrel or Best Wishes?
we get this question alot. wade says slaughter in the vatican.
How did you hook up with Youngblood-Records? And have you ever seen the movie?
sean has been my boy for a pretty long time so it was natural to work with him. he offered us a record and we knew he would take care of anything we needed and he has so far. ive never seen the movie because i was born and raised in texas and have no interest in hockey. my roomate says its good, hes from canada and loves hockey.
Top five records that have come out this year?
fuck i dont know if ive listened to five records that have come out in 2006. i really dont buy records these days unless im on tour and i see a band live. i like the blacklisted record, the unrealesed violent minds record, the new war hungry shit, the livin tape, and the carter 2.
That's all guys. Thanks for taking the time to do this interview. If you have any parting words, feel free to get em off your chest. thanks for the interview.
we'll be on tour all summer and fall. whiskey time.
